Our newest circle song captures the mood at this time of year, especially this winter, beautifully.
Chickadee
Trees are bare everywhere.
Snows are deep and skies are gray.
Yet one bird
May be heard
On the coldest day.
Ask his name and he'll reply,
Cocking up a roguish eye: "Chickadee! Chickadee! Chickadee-dee-dee!"
The Kindergarten Post Office opened for business on Thursday. Students may 'purchase' (with play money) stamps (Thank you Mr. Keefe!), envelopes, note cards, and stickers. When their letters are ready to be mailed they place them in our really cool post office mailbox (Thanks Mrs. Barter!). Mail is picked up three days a week by our classroom postal workers, sorted, and delivered by students to individual classroom mailboxes or by myself to other classrooms within the school.
A miter box and a hand saw are recent additions to the woodworking area. We are learning to wait our turn, be cautious, help one another, keep our attention on our work and persist. How gratifying it is when the cut is finished!
Thanks to the generosity of many people, the woodworking area is now being enjoyed by the children during Choice Time. These two boys, donning their personal protective equipment, were the first to try it out.
It takes a lot of coordination and concentration to hit the nail on the head.
